although alprazolam doesn't do much to improve depression it DOES effectively alleviate mild-moderate anxiety. i'm also happy to report that it seems to work wonders for panic attacks as well...haven't had one since i've started taking it and i've been in sitautions that previously would have triggered one. i'm taking a relatively low dosage for a guy my size (i'm 6'5, 280 lbs and take one .5mg tablet twice daily) - if the dosage were increased i would assume it would be that much more effective but doctors, for good reason, prefer to prescribe the lowest possible effective dose. not a miracle drug but effective and has almost no side effects.
